Zirconia Ceramic Wafer Handling Arm for Advanced Packaging Equipment

Zirconia is a material with high mechanical strength and fracture toughness at room temperature. Our zirconia (ZrO2) is added with 3mol%Y2O3 partial stable zirconia (PSZ). Because the particle diameter of PSZ material is small, it can be processed with high precision, and its application in precision machining parts such as molds is expanding. In addition, can also be used for industrial tools, optical connector parts and crushing equipment medium. The high fracture toughness of PSZ can be used to make special springs, and it is also widely used in domestic ceramic knives, slicer and other parts.

Description

Zirconia (ZrO₂) is a high-performance engineering ceramic known for its excellent mechanical strength and exceptional fracture toughness at room temperature. Our zirconia material is stabilized with 3 mol% yttria (Y₂O₃-stabilized zirconia, Y-TZP / PSZ), which significantly improves its mechanical reliability and processing precision.

Due to its fine-grained structure, PSZ zirconia can be machined to high precision, making it widely used in precision components such as molds, industrial tools, optical connector parts, and wear-resistant mechanical systems.

In addition, its outstanding toughness enables applications in special elastic components such as ceramic springs, and it is also widely adopted in consumer ceramic knives, slicers, and cutting tools.

Key Characteristics of Zirconia Ceramic Components

  1. Excellent wear resistance
Up to ~276 times higher than stainless steel under certain wear conditions
  2. High-density material
Density > 6.0 g/cm³, higher than most engineering ceramics
  3. High hardness
    Vickers hardness > 1300 MPa
  4. High temperature resistance
Can withstand temperatures up to approximately 2400°C (depending on environment)
  5. Low thermal conductivity
< 3 W/m·K at room temperature, providing excellent thermal insulation
  6. Thermal expansion compatibility
Coefficient of thermal expansion similar to stainless steel, improving assembly compatibility
  7. Exceptional fracture toughness
Up to 8 MPa·m¹/², significantly higher than most ceramics
  8. Chemical stability and aging resistance
    Chemically inert, corrosion-resistant, and non-rusting
  9. Resistance to molten metals
Excellent stability under molten metal contact environments due to high melting point and chemical inertness

Main Applications of Zirconia (ZrO₂) Ceramics

Zirconia (ZrO₂) ceramic materials are widely used in precision molds and tooling fixtures, industrial grinding and milling components, precision cutting and transmission tools, and key parts of optical communication connectors, as well as special elastic elements, due to their high strength, excellent fracture toughness, superior wear resistance, and strong chemical stability.

They are also commonly applied in consumer and industrial products such as ceramic knives and slicers. Zirconia performs exceptionally well in demanding environments that require high wear resistance, dimensional stability, and long service life, making it an irreplaceable material in many advanced engineering applications.
