Siliconencarbide is een nieuw type keramiek met hoog kostenprestaties en uitstekende materiaaleigenschappen. Vanwege kenmerken zoals hoge sterkte en hardheid, hoge temperatuurweerstand, grote thermische geleidbaarheid en chemische corrosieweerstand, kan siliciumcarbide bijna alle chemische medium weerstaan. Daarom worden SIC veel gebruikt in oliemining, chemische, machines en luchtruim, zelfs kernenergie en het leger hebben hun speciale eisen aan SIC.
